Despite a reputation as the preeminent diva, Diana Ross prefers to be known as "mom."
Saturday, November 20, Ross attended a reception at Musictech College in St. Paul, where a new full scholarship was named in her honor. After rolling out of a black stretch limo, the 60-year-old entertainer sported a fur coat, dark sunglasses, and a body that hasn't seemed to age since the 70s.
After signing autographs and accepting a bouquet of white roses she told an audience of more than 100 students that it's not divadom that defines her - it's motherhood.
"I'm more a mom than I am a celebrity, even though I know you know me as a celebrity. I'm a mother first," she said.
Ross, who still performs to packed houses also shared the secret of her success.
"I actually don't remember ever not believing in myself," said the Motown legend. "I was brought up in the Brewster projects in Detroit and I always knew that there was a way out." |
