DMX will receive walking papers in return for coming clean about his role in an airport road-rage incident this June.
According to the New York Daily News, the rapper will agree next month to
take responsibility for a June 24 incident and carry only a
misdemeanor on his record.
Sources revealed that both sides neared an agreement last
month, but DMX, born Earl Simmons, refused to admit
responsibility.
Simmons, 33, is facing at least two years behind bars on charges
that he and a friend, Jackie Hudgins, 41, impersonated police in order to chase down a driver who was
in front of them at a Kennedy Airport parking lot.
Reports said DMX and Hudgins were after the same parking spot in
the area and the two chased the other driver with flashing lights and
sirens on their SUV, ultimately crashing through a toll both.
When police arrived, DMX was allegedly pulling the other driver out of the car in an attempt to assault him.
Police said they found a billy club and crack cocaine in Simmons’ black Ford Expedition.
He was later treated at a New York hospital and was subsequently
charged with menacing, possession of a controlled substance, possession
of a weapon and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
“I’m pleased with the cooperation of the district attorney’s
office,” said DMX’s lawyer, Murray Richman, who would not comment on
the deal.
