"I have overcome a lot of things in my life. I will overcome this as well," the 71 year-old icon said. The music legend is expected to spend three weeks recovering from the procedure.
Although Brown, best known for seminal hits like "I Feel Good," "Please, Please, Please," and "Cold Sweat," also suffers from diabetes, he won't let his medical condition slow him down.
Dubbed the hardest working man in show business, Brown plans to embark on book-signing appearances in New York next January for his new autobiography "I Feel Good: A Memoir Of A Life Of Soul."
The singer is also scheduled to tour Asia and Australia early next year for the next leg of his Seven Decades of Funk World Tour. In February, he'll release a new single with the Black Eyed Peas.
Earlier this year, he faced other troubles when he was charged with domestic abuse after an altercation with his wife. The allegation was resolved when he failed to contest the charge.
Brown, who has influenced the genres of rock, rap, and funk, was honored for a lifetime of achievement at the Kennedy Center last year, and recently picked up the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2004 Diesel Music Awards.
