The O'Jays and Percy Sledge are among five musical legends selected to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation will hold its 20th annual induction ceremony on March 14 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Manhattan.
The O’Jays have a body of work that includes over 60 albums, 24 Top Ten smashes and 59 total charted songs. The Philly soul icons whose hits include "Stairway To Heaven," "For The Love Of Money/Backstabbers," "Love Train," and "Use Ta Be My Girl," reached their apex in the 70s, and released their latest set, Imagination, in September 2004. Late 1960s Soul man Sledge is best known for "When a Man Loves a Woman."
The artists beat out an impressive list of nominees including Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, which would have been the first rap group to be inducted.
Nominations are voted on by musicians, industry professionals and journalists. Artists are eligible to be inducted into the Rock Hall after at least 25 years have passed since their first record was released.
