Cam'Ron recently announced his departure from the Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam.
The move directly follows the Roc's sellout to Island Def Jam, and Jay-Z's appointment as the Def Jam's president and CEO. According to Cam, he was unhappy with the level of promotion his album was receiving.
In the past, Cam has confessed to a less-than friendly relationship with Jay-Z, and although there was no official beef, according to Allhiphop.com, the Harlem rapper negotiated an arrangement where he could avoid having to report to Jay-Z.
“I have it written on [my renegotiated contract] that what he does, has nothing to do with my project," he revealed. "Well, I can say this: on LA’s behalf, that’s a very smart move getting Jay. He did a lot of things for the business, and accomplished a lot of over-achievements, and I don’t have a beef with him. We just don’t have a personal relationship, and at the end of the day I need people who I working with to have that kind of relationship with me. And I don’t think me and Jay will have that.”
Cam is reportedly considering offers from other labels, including indie label Koch Records which recently signed his group, The Diplomats.
Cam's latest set, Purple Haze, is on course for a strong debut despite his allegations of poor promotion.
