Wyclef Jean has teamed up with the U.N. World Food Program (WFP) to release a music video to help suffering citizens of Haiti.
"Gonaives," a song with Creole lyrics, is named for the Haitian city struck by massive floods in September. The accompanying clip shows Jean handing out food, clean water, and shooting the breeze with fellow Haitian.
"What we wanted to do was capture the raw essence of Gonaives and what we saw during the floods," Jean said in a statement. "The song is not a song of sadness."
Jean recently launched "Yele Haiti," a movement that, according to a statement, combines music and development to provide the youth of Haiti with tools to rebuild their nation.
The video was released on the eve of a December 15 meeting in Washington about Haiti that will bring together officials from the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, U.N agencies, donors and special interest groups.
In other Wyclef news, the artist was nominated yesterday for a Golden Globe award for his track "Million Voices," part of the soundtrack to the film Hotel Rwanda.See the video to "Gonaives."
