James BrownJames Brown underwent successful surgery today, December 15, to treat diagnosed prostate cancer.

71-year-old "Godfather of Soul" was released this afternoon from the Midtown Urology Surgical Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

"Mr. Brown has successfully undergone a localized prostate cancer procedure and is resting comfortably," Dr. James Bennett, his urologist, said in a statement. "We expect a full recovery. With proper follow-up and care, we can also expect a full cure."

Brown officially announced his diagnosis after waiting to complete a two-week Canadian tour. According to doctors, the music icon will spend three weeks in recovery.

As previously reported, Brown's autobiography is due next month and "the hardest working man in show business" is planning to tour Asia and Australia early next year.
