Hip-hop legend Kurtis Blow may follow the lead of Run DMC member Reverend Run by mixing hip-hop with the gospel.
The rap icon has so far taken hip-hop to two Harlem parishes by leading church services featuring gospel-inspired rap songs.
"Young people need to know about God," Blow told the New York Post.
"What we do isn't boring -- it's uplifting, it's spiritual -- and the kids can relate to it," he said. "We speak the word of God in a language they can understand -- rap."
Blow mans a DJ booth just below the altar, rapping along with a variety of artists.
This February, Blow, 45, intends to begin studying at the New York School of Ministry.
"Rap is a great thing, but it's been getting blamed for a lot of the brawls you see in sports and at shows and gangsta rap has had its problems," he said. "The way we rap in church, it's clean, there's no profanity, and it's all very uplifting."
