50 Cent, whose debut CD was titled Get Rich or Die Tryin', has not only gotten rich, he's living to tell about it.
According to the New York Times, the ex-crack dealer's various ventures have generated roughly $50 million in 2004.
50's entrepreneurial reach has extended far past the majority of celebrities-turned-entrepreneurs to include clothing, footwear, ringtones, a beverage, an adult DVD, a video game, and film project in addition to his record label.
As part of a five-year deal with Reebok International, 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, introduced two new shoe lines this year (the Gxt cross-trainer sneaker and the G-Unit boot) which have so far brought in more than $20 million.
The rapper's G-Unit clothing deal with Ecko Unlimited brought in over $50 million in wholesale sales to date.
In addition, 50's deal with mobile-phone entertainment company Zingy Inc. distributes voice ringtones which go for up to $2.99 a pop. The income from this is in addition to the earnings he receives from selling ringtones of his songs. A sample of a voice ringtone goes like this: "Ay yo what's up, yo this is the kid, 50 Cent man. Stop playin', you better answer!"
Finally, toss in revenue from 50's G-Unit Records (which released top-selling records from Young Buck and Lloyd Banks), an endorsement deal with Glaceau to produce “Formula 50,” a grape flavored water drink, "Groupie Luv" (a top-selling adult DVD), and upcoming autobiographical movie and video game and the 27 year-old rapper is well on his way to becoming one of the top earning entertainers of 2004.
