James Brown Sued For Rape   Print

A Chicago woman has filed a federal lawsuit claiming that James Brown is to blame for her suffering from Graves' disease after his alleged rape at gunpoint in South Carolina in 1988.

Hollander was diagnosed with the autoimmune disorder in 2000. According to her lawsuit, her doctor informed her in 2003 that the alleged rape was the "actual and proximate cause" of her illness.

Brown's attorney quickly moved to discredit Hollander's claims, calling the suit "rag sheet fodder."

"This is what you call a shakedown in its most stupid form," attorney Debra Opri told the Chicago Sun-Times. "It's too little, too late and baseless."

Opri added that the woman's claims were dismissed as frivolous by judge in 2002 that also cleared Brown of another woman's sexual harassment allegations.

Brown, who is in South Carolina, recovering from recent prostate cancer surgery, had no comment.

While Graves' disease can be brought on by stress, many times the exact cause is unknown, according to the National Graves' Disease Foundation.

According to her suit, Hollander was an aspiring songwriter in 1988, working as a publicist for Brown in exchange for help launching her musical career. One day, while she rode with him in a van en route to a car dealership, Brown suddenly began acting strangely, driving recklessly and muttering incoherently, the suit said.

He allegedly drove the van to a secluded spot and threatened Hollander with a shotgun while he "raped, beat and mentally tortured" her for several hours, the suit said.

Hollander's attorney, Donald Rosen, said Brown threatened to kill his client if she told anyone of the encounter, but that she eventually told police of the attack in 1990. Rosen said he was unsure of what happened with the case after that.

usherUsher is the subject of the latest circulated sex video scandal.

A tape, allegedly made when he was 19, apparently shows the now 26-year-old R&B heartthrob knocking boots with two women.

The source, who has seen the entire tape, says, You can see him hamming for the camera."

According to the source, Usher met the two women through the owner of a club where he performed.

"The club owner wanted to show his gratitude," the source said. "So he hooked him up with these ladies."

New York Daily News reporters, who also viewed the tape, say it shows a naked woman Rozonda (Chilli) Thomas.

"It could fetch a lot of money," said David Hans Schmidt, an agent who brokers nude celebrity photos. "Usher is extremely hot."

At press time, had no comment.

One music industry observer noted, "For a long time, hake his boy-next-door image. Some of his handlers have tried to make him look like more of a bad boy. They have gotten their wish."
