Jermaine Dupri's 'We Are the Future' Put On Hold   Print
Tuesday, 11 January 2005

The recording of Jermaine Dupri's "We Are the Future," the update of the 1985 charity track "We Are the World" has been postponed.

The song was to be recorded following the Grammy Awards ceremony on February 13, and would have featured major celebrities from different genres of music.

In light of the recent global disaster and death of thousands in the wake of the December 26 tsunami, the plans have been put on hold.

In a statement, Dupri said that he and "We Are the World" producer Quincy Jones have plans to regroup and will announce a new date to record the song in a few months.

"We Are the World," the groundbreaking track that was released 20 years ago, featured  Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springstein, Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie and numerous other stars. Proceeds from which went toward famine relief in Africa.

"The club owner wanted to show his gratitude," the source said. "So he hooked him up with these ladies."
