The debut album from reigning American Idol Fantasia has finally hit the platinum sales mark.
Despite preliminary numbers that paled in comparison to the sales of former American Idol debuts from Kelly Clarkson and Reuben Studdard, Fantasia's Free Yourself has firmly entrenched itself in both the Billboard 200 Albums chart and the R&B chart where it ranks as this week's "greatest gainer' on both lists.
The 20 year-old singer, who dropped her last name of Barrino since releasing her debut set, has also been enjoying success with the single "Truth Is," which just topped the Urban Adult chart this week.
The set's "Baby Mama" and "Free Yourself" are both contenders to be the follow-up single to "Truth Is."
In related news, Fantasia will join Brian McKnight, Nick Cannon and Nicole Richie as co-host to the 19th annual Soul Train Awards, scheduled to air on March 12th. Check local listings for times.
Fantasia is nominated for a Soul Train Award as Best New Artist, R&B/Soul or Rap, a category that also gives nods to Ciara, J-Kwon and John Legend. Fantasia has also been nominated for Outstanding New Artist and Outstanding Female Artist as part of the NAACP Image Awards, which will broadcast Friday, March 25th, also subject to local listings.
