Actor/rapper Will Smith told the New York Post the details of his open marriage to Jada Pinkett-Smith. He said he would never cheat on her without first asking her permission.
"Our perspective is, You don't avoid what's natural. You're going to be attracted to people," Will told the paper. "In our marriage vows, we didn't say 'forsaking all others.'"
Smith insisted this is part of the secret of the longevity of their high-profile Hollywood marriage.
"The vow that we made was that you will never hear that I did something after the fact," Will added.
The two married on New Year's Eve in 1997, and have so far been approached for marital advice by Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, as well as Bruce Willis and Demi Moore. Although both couples eventually split, Will says the talks actually strengthened his union with Jada and showed them what not to do.
"If it came down to it, then one spouse can say to the other, 'Look, I need to have sex with somebody. I'm not going to if you don't approve of it - but please approve of it.'"
After eight years the couple still behave like newlyweds.
"I spend hours reading, studying," Smith assured. "And my wife and I talk about things that work - and don't work. I don't let a day go past that Jada doesn't feel like the queen of the world. I make sure every single day that she knows how I feel about her."
