Warner Music Group has inked a deal with legendary producer/Def Jam Records co-founder Rick Rubin.
According to the New York Post, Warner Music's label Warner Bros. Records — headed by CEO Tom Whalley — reached a deal to house Rubin's label, American Recordings, home to artists such as the late Johnny Cash.
Warner Bros. Records is home to big-name artists such as Madonna and Red Hot Chili Peppers. An official announcement could come as early as today.
Rubin is best known for founding Def Jam Records with hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons in a dorm room at New York University.
Rubin recently produced tracks for Jay-Z and Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz in the past year, making an appearance in the video clip to one of them, Jay-Z's "99 Problems."
The deal will reunite Rubin's American label with Lyor Cohen, who brought the label into the Island Def Jam music fold before departing for Warner Music Group.
