A Tribe Called Quest and legendary soul songtress Chaka Khan are slated to receive Founders Awards at the Billboard-AURN R&B Hip-Hop Awards.
Taking place August 5 in Atlanta, the ceremony will close the Billboard-AURN R&B Hip-Hop Conference & Awards, and honor pioneers in the genres of R&B and hip-hop music.
The pioneering '90s hip-hop group ATCQ, consisting of Q-Tip, Phife and DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammad, thrilled fans with their jazzy beats and intelligent lyrics, and were instrumental in opening crossover doors in the rap industry.
"We are truly humbled by this award. We feel blessed to receive this much love," Phife said. "Being consistent as well as consistently being ourselves is our legacy; never being afraid to fail or succeed or to try something new."
Chaka Khan remains as one of R&B's most iconic singers, with a career spanning from the '70s, and responsible for such classics as "Sweet Thing," and the timeless anthem, "I'm Every Woman."
"I am grateful to Billboard for honoring me with their Founders Award," Khan said. "Feeling this kind of love and appreciation for my talent is truly humbling. After three decades in this business, I will accept the award with sincere gratitude, but I most want to be considered a woman with a gift who used it to bring joy into people's lives and who continues to get joy from making music."
The Billboard-AURN R&B Hip-Hop Conference & Awards will run August 3-5 at Atlanta's Intercontinental Hotel. For more a schedule of events, visit BillboardEvents.com.
