Mega-stars Janet Jackson, OutKast's Big Boi, the Roots, the Black Eyed Peas' Will.I.Am, and others have banded together to give the music of the legendary Sly & the Family Stone a contemporary makeover.
Different Strokes by Different Folks is set to drop Sept. 27, and features new recorded music combined with master tapes from Sly and the crew.
Stone has been out of the public eye since the group's 1993 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, however it is said he has given the album his blessing.
The album sees Janet Jackson combine her "Rhythm Nation" into the group's seminal "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)," while Will.I.Am lends his contribution to "Dance to the Music," a version that also appears on Epic's recent "Stealth" soundtrack.
Other concoctions include Joss Stone, Van Hunt and John Legend teaming up for the legendary "Family Affair," and an update of "Everyday People" by hot pop band Maroon 5.
Other goodies come from John Mayer with Buddy Guy, D'Angelo with Chuck D and Issac Hayes and Nappy Roots with Martin Luther.
The 61 year-old Sly Stone has not released an album since 1982's Ain't But the One Way and was last heard from on the 1986 soundtrack to the film "Soul Man."
Currently a resident of Beverly Hills, the iconic singer/musician battled drug addiction over the years.
Several original members of the Family Stone started a stuido album project, but it came to a halt last fall due to scheduling conflicts.
The Family Stone Experience, which features original drummer Greg Errico and saxophonist Jerry Martini, is on tour this summer in North America.
