Mary J. Blige Has A 'Breakthrough" With New Album   Print
Tuesday, 20 December 2005

R&B newsMary J. Blige drops her seventh studio album today (December 20) much to the delight of fans both new and old.

The Breakthrough offers 16 tracks featuring a diverse grouping of guest artists such as the late music icon Nina Simone, hip-hop mogul Jay-Z, eclectic soulster Raphael Saadiq, rock gods U2 and more.

The set, according to her publicist, celebrates her 14 year career and also serves as a chronicle of "Mary’s spiritual growth and her transcendence over a childhood in the projects of Yonkers, New York, and an early success plagued with drama, to her current joy."

Blige sums it up like this:

“Yes, she’s gotten lost, she’s done this and that and she’s been trying to figure it out,” the Yonkers native said of herself.
