Anthony Hamilton Ain't Worryin' About A Thing   Print
Friday, 06 January 2006

R&B newsby Ifè Oshun

After honing his formidable singing chops in church since the tender age of ten, Anthony Hamilton struggled for close to a decade before dropping his remarkable 2003 breakthrough album Comin' From Where I'm From.

Uncannily timeless and repeatedly compared to classic soul icon Bill Withers, the bone-warming singer went through several bad deals (including an ill-fated stint at Uptown Records) and numerous professional disappointments before tasting the success and immense critical acclaim the album, and the subsequent Soulife, enjoyed. 2005 saw the release of the latter album which had sat on the dusty shelves of defunct Soul Life Records since 2000. December 2005 also witnessed Ain't Nobody Worryin', Hamilton's latest album testifying to the performer's inner strength and current outlook on life. We kick off 2006 by kicking back with Anthony (listen) as he takes the time to talk about his newfound love, sing a James Taylor classic, and mince no words regarding the current state of R&B music.

AUDIO INTERVIEW (Quicktime)

1. Anthony, how does your spirituality sustain you through your career now as well as during the time when it didn't deem you were having a lot of success?

2. On your last set you spoke a lot about love and relationships. How has your subject matter changed on the new album?

3. A lot of the folks in our audience like to hear about positive relationships that work. Care to share with us what makes your new relationship great?

4. What's your favorite cut on the album and why?

5. Your sound is a bridge between the past and the present. What are your thoughts about R&B today and what it says?

6. What are your thoughts on all the alternative we have to radio now such as satellite, or downloading music? How do you feel about alternatives to radio?

7. Who are some artists, living or dead, you'd love to work with?

8. You'd like to work with James Taylor, huh? Please share what that might sound like?

9. You give killer concerts. What goes through your mind when you're on stage?

10. You excel in creating baby-making music. If you could teach one thing about love, what would it be?

11. What last words would you like to share with our audience?

Thanks Anthony Hamilton!
