Mariah Carey topped off 2005 by earning the most album sales of the year with her "comeback" album The Emancipation of Mimi.
The honor, narrowly missed by 50 Cent's The Massacre, was snatched by Carey during the final week of the year, according to Nielsen SoundScan, when the set sold 102,000 copies, giving it a 2005 total of 4.97 million.
50 Cent came in at a close second with 4.85 million copies sold. His previous album, Get Rich or Die Tryin', (not to be confused with the 2005 soundtrack of the same name) was the biggest selling album for 2003, taking in 6.5 million copies.
The top album of 2004 was Usher's Confessions, which sold nearly 8 million copies.
Coming in behind 50 Cent for 2005 were: Kelly Clarkson (3.5 million), Green Day (3.4 million), Black Eyed Peas (3 million), Coldplay (2.6 million) and Rascal Flatts (2.5 million).
